Chemistry Stockroom Assistant

Summary of Duties:
The Stockroom Assistant primarily assists the manager with instructional stockroom (3rd and 4th floor) duties and a small portion of department main stockroom tasks. The assistant's duties include supporting instructional lab and stockroom cleaning, assisting ongoing labs in session, replenishing student drawer equipment, and aiding in setting up and breaking down weekly chemistry instructional lab materials. The position is located in the Fulmer building on the WSU Pullman Campus.

Responsibilities include:
Instructional stockrooms (3rd and 4th floor):
·      Light cleaning to stockroom and instructional labs (sweeping, dusting, etc.)
·      Assisting with weekly lab setup and breakdown
·      Making solutions/diluting/standardizing reagents for instructional laboratories
·      Refilling reagents and supply bottles for instructional laboratories
·      Stocking glassware and supplies for the stockrooms, instructional laboratories, and student drawers
·      Checking laboratory instruments and computers to ensure they are working/charging and turned on/off
·      Inspecting student workspaces and drawers for neatness and completeness
·      Inspecting fume hoods for neatness
·      Collecting and labeling waste
·      Alerting the manager or lab supervisor to potential safety hazards (spills, open containers, etc.) and safety infractions (students not wearing goggles, food/drinks in lab, etc.)
·      Alerting manager when reagents and supplies need to be ordered or replenished
·      Reporting any equipment malfunctions or issues.
Main stockroom:
·      Inventory management and providing lab supplies to graduate students, staff, and faculty
·      Assisting with parcel handling and organizing/stocking shelves when supplies come in
·      Performing light cleaning to floors and shelves
·      Breaking down daily accrual of cardboard, and taking out the trash and recyclables

Requirements:
·      Stockroom Assistant (3rd floor) applicants MUST have taken and COMPLETED Chemistry 102/106 or transfer equivalent
·      Stockroom Assistant (4th floor) applicants MUST have taken and COMPLETED Chemistry 345 or transfer equivalent

Student workers who perform well and demonstrate a strong work ethic during their employment will be given priority for re-hiring in the following semesters, ensuring continued opportunities for growth and contribution to the department. Student worker typically work 3-4 hour shifts that align with chemistry lab schedules, amounting to a total of 6-16 hours per week. The exact number of hours depends on the student worker's own class schedule and the chemistry instructional lab schedule.
