DUTIES:
Student that apply to be tutors will work with WSU students on a one-on-one basis or in small group sessions to guide learning on course content, aid in comprehension of course material, and to help with reviewing the course content. Peer tutors work with WSU students in their content areas of expertise.

Tutors must attend UNIV 497 the weekly Tutor Training Course - Level I during the fall 2021 semester that provides them with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to become a successful tutor. Training occurs concurrently with tutoring. Successful completion of the tutorial training course plus 25 hours of peer tutoring experience will enable the tutor to qualify for Tutor Certification by the College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Certification Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have completed 30 credits and at least 15 credits must be from WSU.
  • Peer tutor applicants should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and at least a 3.0 in the courses that they wish to tutor. Under special circumstances a GPA below 3.0 will be accepted.
  • Tutors need patience, good verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with students from varied backgrounds and with varieties of skill levels.
  • Tutors who are on an assistantship, TA/RA position need to clear adding tutoring (a time slip position) with their departments.
  • Must Enroll/attend UNIV 497 in fall 2021. The class is MW 12:10-1:00 PM. If offered a tutoring position, the tutor coordinator will enroll you into the course.
