Software Engineering Intern

May - July 2018 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

Pay and other perks were outstanding, literally more than double what I was making at my next highest paying job. Management is also excellent. Many companies view work as a resource that needs to be extracted from workers in the same way that wine needs to be extracted from grapes, which is managements job. Microsoft views the role of management as giving individual contributors all of the resources and the setting that they need to perform at their best.

What I wish was different

I genuinely have no criticisms. My project and team were excellent. I learned more in 12 weeks there than I did in the last 2 semesters at school. They threw a bunch of parties and other events. I think I got 6 T-shirts, 2 nice jackets, and a beach towel just for working there. They are really invested in their workforce.

Advice

Work at Microsoft.

I wish that there was better communication between recruiters and the interns. Sometimes I had trouble reaching out to my recruiter.

What I liked

Very fun environment for interns. Lots of events, talks, and opportunities to network.
